Fundraising 2021

Despite the uncertainties of the times we are living in, the Programme of Armenian Studies is determined to continue its important work. Now more than ever, the Memory Documentation Project needs the support of all our friends.

That is why we are writing today to invite you to take part in our £5 appeal, which will help us achieve our goal of raising £3,000 for the Memory Documentation Project.

Please watch our fundraising campaign video below, which presents the important work we have been able to do with your help and support.

We hope that £5 is an accessible donation which many of our friends will be able to contribute. Our work relies on the support of everyone who believes in us, and we are always grateful for any donation we receive, no matter the size.

The Memory Documentation Project is a vital undertaking, collecting memories and documenting cultural artefacts such a songs, photographs and memoirs of first-generation Armenians in Diaspora, born after the Genocide. For more information, please see here.

Using your donations we have already made immense progress; we have surpassed our goals for the Memory Documentation Project, carrying out 20% more interviews than planned, but we know there is much more to be done.

This is an enormous amount of work. The generation whose memories we seek to document are elderly and little of their experience has been recorded. Unless something is done, their memories could soon be lost forever.

We have so far recorded 150 interviews, including:

85 interviews in Beirut
45 interviews in Greece
10 in Bulgaria
4 in Jerusalem
3 in the USA
2 in the UK
1 in Argentina
1 in the Western Armenian community in Armenia
2 videos on Kokinia and 1 on Fix (Armenian neighbourhoods of Athens)

Our interviews in Bulgaria represent the expansion of our activities to new areas. Work will soon start in Anjar in Lebanon. With your help, our next targets are Thessaloniki, Bucharest, Aleppo, and Egypt.

We were able to achieve this in just over two years thanks to you, and with your support, we can exceed ourselves and work even harder this coming year.

If you are looking for a way to help us in our vital work, please consider joining our £5 appeal, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
